2012 BCCE cCWCS mini-workshop: Forensic Science, An Introduction to the Analysis of Evidence

This workshop will provide college faculty with laboratory activities drawn from various aspects of forensic science. This workshop is modeled after a 5-day intensive forensic science workshop for college and university faculty conducted under the auspices of the cCWCS (Chemistry Collaborations, Workshops and Communities of Scholars) project funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF). This half-day workshop will provide the participants with an opportunity to have hands on experience with some specific techniques and instruments used in the analysis of evidence frequently associated with modern criminal activities. The workshop will consist of 4 or 5 activities coordinated by alumni of the CWCS Forensic Science workshop. Activities may include: determination of breath and saliva alcohol concentration; presumptive and evidentiary drug analysis; lifting fingerprints; ballistics and trace evidence analysis. The activities are appropriate for use in general education lab science courses for non-science majors as well as in general, organic and analytical chemistry courses for science majors. The cCWCS is supported by the NSF (TUES Type 3 Project #1022895)
